CHICAGO – Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin has been named the 2019 Energy Champion for demonstrating strong leadership in becoming a more energy efficient facility and using saved resources to support patient care. In addition, dozens of hospitals have earned an Energy to Care Award for lowering energy use. The American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association will recognize these hospitals — as well as local affiliated chapters who competed against each other in an energy savings chapter challenge competition — at its 56th Annual Conference and Technical Exhibition, July 14-17 in Baltimore.
The Energy to Care program encourages hospitals across the country to reduce their energy consumption by taking a closer look at their energy management plans. Facilities that reduce energy by 10% or more over the previous year or 15% over two years —and previous Energy to Care winners who go on to reduce consumption by an additional 5% —are eligible to win an Energy to Care Award.
The Energy Champion Award recognizes a single facility that demonstrates outstanding leadership in energy efficiency. Hospital leadership at Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, approved a number of facility improvement projects, including lighting projects, building envelope improvements and HVAC equipment upgrades. In addition, facilities operations teams have increased their vigilance in benchmarking their daily utility usages and have improved their equipment scheduling schemes.
ASHE congratulates Aurora Sinai Medical Center and the following hospitals that earned an Energy to Care Award:
