Our Project
Hackensack University Medical Center is one of two flagship academic medical centers in the Hackensack Meridian Health System. A new, state-of-the-art, 44,000-square-foot central utility plant was a vital part of upgrading the hospital’s infrastructure to support the campus, in addition to a new 530,000-square-foot patient pavilion, providing enhanced capacity and improved energy efficiency.
The facility was designed to consolidate the existing infrastructure and complement the urban campus. It includes a 180,000-pound-per-hour boiler plant, a 12,000-ton chiller plant and a 7,500-kilowatt diesel generator plant.
The plant achieved USGBC’s new PEER (Performance Excellence Electricity Renewal) Gold certification, recognizing industry leaders in energy efficient design – one of the first three medical centers to receive PEER certification, and the first to certify Gold.
