CHICAGO – Every year, the Vista Awards aim to highlight professionals who are at the forefront of health care design and construction innovation. The American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association (AHA) presents the awards to teams who work together to develop and maintain safe, quality health care environments; demonstrate effective and efficient communication; and rely on data-based decision-making processes.
This year, ASHE congratulates the project team behind Piedmont Atlanta Hospital Marcus Tower, in Atlanta, Ga., who take home the 2023 Vista Award for New Construction.
The goal of this project was to establish a premiere health care destination for cardiovascular care in the American Southeast that echoes the sophistication and innovation of twenty-first-century Atlanta. Piedmont sought to expand its services to include neurology, stroke and transplant services and meet an increasing demand for care, all while enhancing the overall staff and patient experience. The project also modernizes an older campus while integrating elegantly into the surrounding community.
An integrated design and construction team collaborated to ensure every aspect of the facility supports high quality care. A clear vision for the project, supported by guiding principles, goals and key performance indicators, led to efficient decision-making throughout the process. Notably, the tower hosts the hospital’s newly consolidated surgical platform, which not only improves efficiencies within the department, but has enabled the creation of the first organ recovery center in the state of Georgia.
This state-of-the-art facility also resonates deeply with Piedmont’s values, and the project delivered on those values even before construction was complete. As COVID-19 spread across the nation during the final months of the tower’s construction in early 2020, the team completed patient floors four months ahead of schedule, allowing the brand-new hospital to receive patients at a time of greatest need.
The Vista Awards are presented by ASHE. These specific awards recognize significant collaboration in creating optimal health care environments. This winning team has exemplified outstanding teamwork in all stages of their health care project, from preplanning to the final reveal.
