ASHE Celebrates Hospitals Championing Sustainable Practices

CHICAGO – Three health care facilities – Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital in Virginia, and Aurora Medical Center in Manitowoc County, Wis. – have earned ASHE’s Energy to Care Program 2022 Sustainability Champion Award for demonstrating strong leadership in becoming more sustainable and using saved resources to support patient care. The American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association will recognize these facilities – alongside more than one hundred other hospitals that have earned an Energy to Care Award for lowering energy use – at its Annual Conference and Technical Exhibition, July 17-20 in Boston.
The Energy to Care Program participation has seen consistent growth since its inception in 2006. Participation has grown to more than 3,600 facilities since 2010, and in the entire life of the program, health care facilities have seen a combined savings of over $550 million dollars reallocated to patient care.
The program also recognizes past Energy to Care Award winners who have continued to accomplish sustainability goals with the inaugural Sustained Performance Award. ASHE congratulates these facilities for further reducing or maintaining reduced emissions:

- Aurora Medical Center in Grafton
- Aurora Medical Center in Burlington

Through the Energy to Care Program, ASHE affiliated chapters can participate in a challenge, competing to demonstrate the highest reductions in energy consumption. Seventeen ASHE affiliated chapters participated in the Energy to Care 2022 Chapter Challenge. ASHE congratulates the winners of the 2022 Chapter Challenge and thanks all participants for their work to save energy.
