The President’s Award is presented at the discretion of the sitting ASHE president to an individual who has made significant contributions to the health care facility management profession and has gone above and beyond the call of duty in an effort to optimize the health care physical environment. David L. Howard, CHFM, is the recipient of the 2014 President’s Award. ASHE President Philip C. Stephens, MHA, CPE, CHFM, FASHE, selected Howard because of his remarkable service to the profession, to ASHE, and to state chapters. Howard has been in the health car joined ASHE and the Texas Association of Healthcare Facilities Management early in his career, beginning a lifelong commitment to the profession and to ASHE. Howard was elected president of the Texas chapter and later awarded the chapter’s Robert C. Paul Award for Hospital Engineering Excellence. In 1991 he moved to Colorado to oversee several hospitals and became involved with the Colorado Association of Healthcare Engineers and Directors. He was elected president of that chapter and received the chapter’s lifetime achievement award. On the national level, Howard has served on many ASHE committees as well as the ASHE Board of Directors, and he helped develop the Certified HEalthcare Facilty Manager exam. His continued passion for health care facility management should inspire others to explore what ASHE can do for them and what they can do for the profession. |
