This session builds on the Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) workshop conducted during the 2016 PDC Summit and the interactive session conducted during the 2018 and 2019 PDC Summits. The session will interactively present innovative and provocative ideas from “Reimagining Critical Care,” a workshop that brought together clinicians and designers to empathize with challenges in critical care and create solutions to those pressing challenges. In this session, provocative ideas from “Reimagining Critical Care” will be explored. A “Shark Tank” format will be used to engage the audience in understanding, improving upon and voting for the best ideas to come from the doctors, nurses, midwives, hospital administrators, birth center owners, architects, engineers, medical planners, technologists and process improvement specialists who gathered in small groups to reimagine childbirth facilities. We will also demonstrate how the FGI uses these tools to improve Guidelines development and to test new ideas for childbirth facilities.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the basic principles of design thinking and process mapping
- Review how FGI is evolving and how it is using design thinking and clinical expertise to improve future Guidelines content
- Gain exposure to new ideas for critical care design
- Have fun shaping a further research agenda for the FGI by helping to pick a best topic
