Healthcare organizations face continuous pressure to effectively manage expenses and improve profit margins while meeting growing demands in the communities they serve. In parallel, the infrastructure is getting older, with deferred maintenance statistics increasing year over year. Healthcare organizations are seeking to increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. It is a perfect storm of conflicting financial priorities - so where do we start? Join this session to learn about asset-driven budgeting and forecasting.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Gain insight into distinguishing between discretionary & non-discretionary infrastructure investments, including budgetary impacts of internal vs. external resources in the financial management of the facility.
  2. Present case study data and operating expense benchmark data using plant, property & equipment (PP&E) metrics versus traditional gross square foot for additional validation of staffing, utility, and compliance resource needs.
  3. Demonstrate the statistical significance and relationship between operational and capital budgets, and the negative impacts of increasing deferred maintenance on operational efficiency.
  4. Provide a defined asset-driven framework for facility business planning, including, and supporting larger ESG, Master Planning and other strategic initiatives.

Mark Mochel, MBA, CHFM, PMP, ACABE is currently a Strategic Account Executive at Brightly, a Siemens company. Before joining Brightly, he was a Co-Founder and Senior Vice President at Facility Health Inc., where he was instrumental in introducing new infrastructure investment solutions and benchmarking capabilities to the healthcare industry. Mark has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University, an MBA from The University of Michigan, and has held executive leadership roles in multiple industries, providing a unique perspective on the challenges facing healthcare facility management today. As an advocate for increased infrastructure investment in our industry and a candidate for the ASHE national advisory board, Mark is passionate about sharing his experience with all who serve and are served through the environment of care.
