The AHA works to advocate for resources and policies, at an organizational or governmental level, that support a robust and healthy workforce. The AHA mobilizes members, state associations and other stakeholders around these issues so that the labor-intensive health field is prepared to handle our nation’s health care needs.
The core mission of hospitals and health care systems is caring for people. To fulfill that mission, hospitals and health systems need compassionate, skilled, trained, and dedicated professionals. Health care is a labor-intensive field, requiring 24-hour-per-day/seven-days-per-week staffing to achieve optimal quality outcomes. Investment in a qualified and engaged multi-disciplinary workforce is foundational. To advance workforce issues, the AHA has developed a Workforce Agenda.
The American Society for Health Care Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA) of the American Hospital Association (AHA) is the nation’s only membership organization dedicated to meeting the needs of human resources professionals in health care. Founded in 1964, the American Society for Health Care Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA) is a professional membership group of the American Hospital Association (AHA) and has more than 2,500 members nationwide. ASHHRA leads the way for members to become more effective, valued and credible leaders in health care human resources. As the foremost resource for health care human resources, ASHHRA provides timely and critical support through research, learning and knowledge sharing, professional development, products and resources, and opportunities for networking and collaboration. ASHHRA offers the only certification distinguishing health care human resource professionals, the Certified in Healthcare Human Resources (CHHR).
The American Hospital Association’s 2019 Public Policy Advocacy Agenda seeks to continue to positively influence the public policy environment for patients, communities and the health care field. We will work hand in hand with our members; the state, regional and metropolitan hospital associations; national health care organizations; and other stakeholders to develop and implement an advocacy strategy to fulfill our vision.

ASHHRA is pleased to offer another valuable member benefit through the AHA Resource Center, where ASHHRA members have up to two hours of project time available to them each calendar year, and additional time for in-depth projects can be purchased at a special members-only discounted rate. With the rapid advancement of technology and social media, ASHHRA members expressed the need for more in-depth responses to help them answer questions and devise solutions for emerging concerns in their work environments. To respond to these changing needs, ASHHRA has expanded our partnership with the AHA Resource Center to provide research services for ASHHRA members.
